Werkstattgespräch (ZH): Mining the Atmosphere. Climate and Capital in a Changing World (Debjani Bhattacharyya)

How do we explain the fact that we have turned overwhelmingly to the market to tackle the climate crisis? Carbon has become a liquid investable asset that can be traded, bought and sold in order de-risk the economy. How have we gotten to the point where the very thing, carbon emissions which threaten our planet, has been turned into an investable asset? Where have we failed? This talk will try to turn to the historically entangled relation between climate and the role of capital in shaping the world we live in today in order to offer some answers to the pressing questions of our time.
